Years before this tragic accident, Gail Halpin, mother of baby Corey, had joined several online children’s clothing boutique forums.
Over time, she enjoyed sharing countless stories and pictures of her children, including Corey.
Corey's tragic death sent shockwaves throughout these online communities. In an immediate and heartfelt reaction, thousands of fellow mothers, who knew Gail through these forums, came together to support each other and the Halpin family. Through the tears, heartache, mourning, and pain, these online communities stood united.
Together, members discussed ways to help Gail and her family endure what could only be described as every parent's worst nightmare. Less than 24 hours after Corey's death, a fund was created to help the Halpin family with the funeral expenses and related costs. This fund would soon be known as the Corey Fund. Members started eBay auctions in Corey's memory, in which all proceeds went to the Corey Fund. Other members started silent auctions between members of the forums. While others simply opened up their wallet and contributed what they could.
As a result of this fundraising, several thousand dollars was raised in less than 48 hours. This was a truly extraordinary moment for all. Upon hearing this news, it was Gail and her family who felt the most blessed of all. The outpouring of support made a huge impact on all those involved. Those affected by Corey's story included fellow mothers, grandparents, caregivers, auction bidders and winners, and even complete strangers. Each person who heard Corey's story was changed forever.
Thanks to these generous donations, the Halpin family was able to pay for the funeral and related costs, with funds left over to start this website.
Gail's passion and conviction to raise awareness, and not let her son die in vain, is nothing short of remarkable. In Corey's memory, we continue to reach out and educate others on the seriousness of furniture and TV tip-over accidents. With a little awareness, so many lives can be saved.
In loving memory of Corey J. Halpin,
April 14th, 2006 - March 31st, 2008.
